ReliaDent Component Description & Instructions

  • Battery:  The battery is a 100 amp-hour Valve Regulated Lead Acid sealed unit.  The expected life is 4 to 5 years.  Replacement should be of the same size and type.  The 12 volt output powers both the air compressor and inverter, in case of need.

  • Air Compressor:  The compressor is an oil-less type with an integral 12 volt DC motor.  There is an automatic pressure switch control set at 80 – 100 PSI.  This will automatically turn off the compressor when this pressure is achieved in the pressure tank.

  • Power Switch:  There is a switch on the front panel which turns on both the inverter and the compressor.  If the unit is plugged in, the battery-charging portion of the system will be active regardless of switch position.  It is recommended to keep the system plugged in to maintain battery charge.

  • Circuit Breaker:  There is a press-to-reset breaker on the back.  If it is necessary to reset this, the most likely reason is an attempt to overload the outlet.

  • Electrical Outlet:  If utility power is available and the system is plugged in, utility power will be fed to this outlet.  If the system is being tested (by unplugging and operating) or if there is a power interruption and the switch is on, inverted power will be generated and be available at the outlet.  A maximum of 500 watts is available.

  • Water Reservoir:  Clean, fresh water should be put in the removable 1 liter bottle.  This should be done before starting the compressor, as the bottle becomes filled with pressure.

  • Handpiece:  A 4-hole standard handpiece is provided. This is foot-control activated.  Automatic coolant spray can be manually turned off or regulated by turning the “WATER” valve gently.

  • Syringe:   A standard-type, 2-button ‘3-way’ syringe is provided.

  • Vacuum System Assembly:  There is a single collection bottle for both HV and SE vacuum instruments, but they are otherwise independent.  The collection bottle and HV hose assembly should be attached to the quick-connect nozzle on the unit front.  Then the SE venturi block should be attached to the collection bottle by inserting the discharge tube into the hole in the collection-bottle top.  The short hose’s ¼” quick connect should then be inserted into the adjacent  ¼” receptacle on the front panel.

  • High Volume Vacuum Handpiece:  The HV is compressed air driven.  The control labeled ‘HV’ throttles the supply air and the button on the handpiece is the on/off control.  If it is desired to remove the collection bottle while compressed air is present, first gently close the ‘HV’ valve.

  • Saliva Ejector:  The SE runs continuously according to the setting of the control marked “SE.”  Discharge is deposited into the collection bottle.

Note: It is expected that since the system is not intended for daily use, the compressor is not designed to support all air-driven items at their peak capacity simultaneously or continuously.  The operator may have to adjust his rate of use to allow the compressor to “catch up.”  Peak power will be available when the compressor automatically stops.

  • Condensate Drain:  After use, condensate should be drained from the air reservoir.  A length of tubing with a ¼” quick connect has been provided.  The operator should provide himself with a bottle to collect the waste water.  When the air tank is pressurized, inserting the quick connect into the jack on the lower rear of the unit will expel first water, then air.

  • Air Regulator:  If it is desired, the delivered air pressure can be adjusted.  The six screws attaching the bottom panel must be removed.  The air regulator and gauges will be seen on the air tank.  Turning the black knob on top of the regulator clockwise increases the peak delivered pressure. (Vertical motion of the knob activates/deactivates the rotational lock.)

  • Low Battery Alarm:  If the battery voltage drops to 11½ volts, the alarm will sound.  The typical cause is an inadvertently disconnected power cord.
