Assembly and Install of a Hardwired Battery Backup System

Who Can Install a Hardwired Backup Power System?

Medi-Products' hardwired systems offer unparalleled flexibility by providing backup power directly to appliances through the outlets they are already using, regardless of their location within a facility. Direct power delivery, assembly, and installation are required upon arrival to enable this.

Assembly and Mounting:

  • Assembly: The assembly of our hardwired systems is straightforward and mirrors the process used for standalone systems. It does not require specialized tools or expertise.
  • Mounting: While the assembly and mounting of the system can be performed by an experienced individual—such as a handyman, facilities manager, or maintenance staff—having someone with relevant experience is beneficial.

Professional Installation:

  • Electrical Integration: A licensed contractor or electrician is essential to complete the installation. Although they do not need to handle the assembly and mounting, their expertise is crucial for integrating the system into the facility’s electrical circuit.

How Long Does Installing a Hardwired Battery Backup Generator Take?

Assembling and mounting a hardwired system typically takes just one to two hours.

For facilities with on-site staff, the only cost to install the system is your staff's time. You can set up the project when it works best for you and save money. Doing any prep work beforehand can also reduce the time the electrician will charge you.

Wiring the battery-powered generator to the circuit panel should only take a few minutes for the electrician. However, the time needed can vary depending on how far the backup system is from the circuit panel. Usually, the closer the generator is to the panel, the quicker and cheaper the installation will be.

The electrician's job is to run and connect the wires to the generator. If your electrician or contractor has any questions or isn't sure how to install the battery backup generator, they can call Medi-Products. Our team of experts will help guide them through the simple process.

What Tools Are Needed to Assemble and Install a Hardwired System?

Every Medi-Products backup generator comes with everything you need for assembly and mounting, including:

  • Self-Drilling Screws
  • Battery Cables
  • Drywall Anchors
  • Other Necessary Hardware

This hardware allows you to mount the system either to wall studs or directly into the drywall.

You will need to provide your own tools for the full assembly and mounting process. The tools required are:

  • A Phillips Head Screwdriver (for assembling the cabinet)
  • A Stud Finder (if mounting to wall studs)
  • A Drill and Bits

Installing a hardwired system involves nine steps, with seven of them being doable by you:

  1. Unpack the Shipment
  2. Remove the Battery Covers
  3. Attach the Feet/Extra Battery Cabinet(s)
  4. Mount the System
  5. Run Line/Load Circuits
  6. Wire Line/Load Circuits
  7. Install the Batteries/Cables
  8. Re-attach the Battery Covers

Steps 6 and 7, which involve running and wiring the line/load circuits, should be handled by an electrician. After a quick test to confirm everything is set up correctly, your system will be ready to provide the essential backup power your facility needs during an outage.

Note:
Once mounted to the wall, the full weight of a battery backup system is supported by the floor and feet. The wall it is mounted to only stabilizes the generator, bearing little of its weight.
