Assembly and Install of a Hardwired Battery Backup System

Who Can Install a Hardwired Backup Power System?

Medi-Product's hardwired system provide the ultimate flexibility—providing backup power directly to appliances via the outlets they're already plugged into while being located anywhere inside a facility. In order to achieve this direct power delivery, Hardwired systems will need assembly and installation upon arrival.

Assembling and mounting a hardwired system is identical to a standalone system and does not need special tools or skills. Though someone with experience— like a handyman, facilities manager, or maintenance staff— is best suited handle this task if possible.

But, to complete the installation process a licensed contractor or electrician will be needed. While they do not need to be the one to assemble and mount the system, they are necessary to integrate the system into the electrical circuit.

How Long Does Installing a Hardwired Battery Backup Generator Take?

Assembly and mounting of a hardwired system should only take one to two hours—at most.

For facilities with on-site or in-network staff, the only cost to install a system is would be the cost of their staff's time. This allows you the flexibility to complete the project on your own schedule while saving money. In most cases, any pre-requisite work saves time the electrician would normally charge for.

Wiring the battery powered generator into the circuit panel should take only a few minutes for the electrician. However, depending on where your backup system is found relative to the circuit panel, this may vary. Generally, of thumb, the closer a battery powered generator is to the circuit panel the faster the install. This also means, the closer to the panel the less expensive the installation.

The electrician only needs to run and wire line and load circuits into the generator. If your electrician or contractor of choice has any questions, concerns or is unfamiliar with installing a battery backup generator have them contact Medi-Products directly. Our team of engineers and electricians will be able to explain and walk them through the simple process.

We recommend directly contacting your facility's preferred contractor/electrician for more information about:

What Tools Are Needed to Assemble and Install a Hardwired System?

Every Medi-Product's backup generator contains the necessary hardware to assemble and mount it including:

  • Self-Drilling Screws
  • Battery Cables
  • Drywall Anchors
  • and Other Necessary Hardware

This is all that is needed to mount a system to either the studs of your wall or directly into the drywall.

However, you will need to supply your own tools to fully assemble and mount a standalone system. Though, the only tools needed to complete the installation process are:
  • A Phillips Head Screwdriver (To assemble the cabinet)
  • a Stud Finder (If it is being mounted to the studs)
  • and A Drill and Bits

Installation of a hardwired system requires only nine steps. Seven of these steps can be completed by the end user.

The steps to install the hardwired generator are:

  • Unpacking the Shipment
  • Removing the Battery Covers
  • Attaching the Feet/Extra Battery Cabinet(s)
  • Mounting the System
  • Running Line/Load Circuits
  • Wire Line/Load Circuits
  • Installing the Batteries/Cables
  • Re-attaching the Battery Covers

Only steps 6 and 7 (running and wiring line/load circuits) needs to be completed by an electrician. Following a brief test to ensure proper installation, your system will be fully installed and ready to be deployed. It will then begin providing the critical backup power your facility needs to function during an outage.

Note:
Once mounted to the wall, the full weight of a battery backup system is supported by the floor and feet. The wall it is mounted to only stabilizes the generator, bearing little of its weight.
